“Valuable skill, that. Though it did sound like you’d done some cheatin’ in your life. Like you were defending somethin’, perhaps.”
Jean shrugged.
“Terra. Just Terra? Or Terra… See-From-Both-Sides?”
[☄] — …Not exactly cheating, but you’re pretty much on the right track. The Titan chuckled dismissively, shuffling her feet in a subtle discomfort. “Naw, man,” she replied. “I don’t roll like that.”
See-From-Both-Sides rolled her eyes comically. “Either one is fine, but I’d stick to just Terra if I were you.”
“It just seems so stupid to waste your time in a relationship that doesn’t work. Life’s so short— so delicate, that a slight bump in the road could lead to death for one or more sides of the romance.”
Jean sighed.
“Shitty means of an introduction, huh? The name’s Jean Kirstein and, yes, I’ve always been this careless with my words. Maybe it’s s’methin’ I should work on but meh.”
[☄] — “It is stupid, and it is a waste of time to be in an, I guess, unhealthy relationship. I was just tryin’ to see it from both sides.”
The geomancer waved off his seemingly apologetic inquiry and shrugged. “Eh, don’t worry about it. I’ve had worse, and I’m sure you have, too. But uh, yeah…it’s cool to meet you, Mr. Jean Careless-With-His-Words. I’m Terra.”
”Tha’s what I mean. Like, in relationships, you trust one another, right? Right, of course. But if one half cheats the other’s trust, then what good is their relationship at all? It’s a waste of time, that’s what. Life’s short so why waste it like that?”
”I’m not a good person, but I wouldn’t cheat on anyone.”
[☄] — “Well, yeah…” the geomancer replied, the casualness embedded in her voice fading a sliver. “Trust is actually the most important thing, and like you said…once it’s been breached, then the whole relationship is pretty much screwed.”
“But the thing is that people—cheaters, for one—take that for granted…trust, I mean. I guess it just didn’t matter to them from the start, y'know? ‘Cause if it did, they obviously wouldn’t have tried two-timing.”
”And when one member of this three, isn’t aware they’re in a three at all? When they’re giving all they have to this one person, and the cheater’s having just as much fun with another person?”
[☄] — “Well…eh, unless they found out about the double-dealing, then there’s nothing they can do about it, really.”
“I know, I know, it’s totally unfair…but y’know, assholes will be assholes, and they’re the ones who will always be at fault.”
”I don’t understand. If you know you’re cheating and you know you’re gonna continue cheating on your partner, then you must not be happy in the relationship. If you were, you wouldn’t cheat. So why the fuck would you stay at all?”
[☄] — “The more the merrier?”
“Not tryin’ to condone it or anything…I’m just laying it out there.”
